I was present in one of her science talks today, she does water and environmental research and she has a community project where she teaches communities to detect polluting agents in water sources using tampons! Turns out tampons can absorb water pollutants and they're visible under a UV light.

Her talk was very interesting, but one part that really stuck with me was that she mentioned not being able to use the word "tampon" when working with high school level students because the parents and school got angry, apparently it was illegal to mention tampons around high school students. She had to call them "cotton on a string"

WHAT!?! It seems like Kelly works in Texas. So I'm guessing these anti-tampon parents were Texans.

I thought Texans were supposed to be tough and practical. Getting offended by the word tampon is truly next level snowflake behavior.
